Apple have 99 percent mobile apps on market

More than 4.2 billion U.S. dollars spent on applications for mobile phones last year, with Apple achieving more than 99 percent of the growing market, according to Gartner.

Apple a share of at least 99.4 percent from the 2.516 billion downloads of mini-programs for smart phones in the past year, Gartner said.

Gartner put the revenue from mobile phone applications at 4.24 billion U.S. dollars in 2009 and predicted it would be at 6.8 billion U.S. dollars this year and 29.5 billion U.S. dollars in 2013.

Apple announced earlier this month that more than three billion paid and free applications for the iPhone or iPod Touch was downloaded from the California business online App Store since its launch in July 2008.

"We have no signs of catching the competition in the near future," said Apple CEO Steve Jobs at the moment.

Gartner analysts agree that Apple has at least two thirds of the market, if current sales trends could take years to 2010.

"As smart phones are increasingly popular shops and the application to the center for various players in the value chain, more consumers are experimenting with program," said Gartner Research Director Stephanie Bagh Dass Arian.

"Games are still the number one program, and grow the mobile shopping, social networking, utilities and productivity tools, and continue to attract more money," said one Bagh Dass Arian staement.

Apple shares the revenues of mobile applications with the independent developers who create programs and submit them to Apple for approval.

The success of Apple's App Store has BlackBerry-maker Research in Motion, Microsoft, Nokia, Palm, Google and others has led to its own mobile phone store running applications.
